Today we have an extremely successful theory describing the physics of elementary particles. This theory-known as the standard model-has been able to explain the result of almost all experiments involving elementary particles, and have also given rise to many new predictions which have subsequently been experimentally verified.
Despite the enormous success of the standard model, we do not yet have a unified theory describing all natural phenomena. The main obstacle comes from the difficulty in incorporating gravity within the framework of the standard model. Although significant progress has been made in this direction with the help of string theory, we are still far from achieving our final goal.
Update Study Group (erstwhile ‘Update’) began publication from Kolkata, India in 1999. From the very beginning, ‘Update’ stood for international socialist movement and Marxist world outlook. ।
